Effects of Toxic Black Mold. My laptop died, so I had to make this in two sections. I want the management company to see the health effects of staying in an apartment with visible mold. It is going to a lab for testing. The companies management is being pretty stubborn, saying it is only mildew. All I can say is these are my symptoms. My dog was coughing and I brought her into the vet. Vet said she was experiencing allergies. Vet recommended I get my air ducts cleaned. I will try and post the pictures of the vents. I started to get really sick about three weeks ago, when I turned on air conditioning for most of the day. I want for people to know, if they see visible mold, what can happen if it is left untreated. My health insurance starts on Sept. 1st. So, I will tell you what the doctors say. TN State Prison 30

This is a 3 exposure HDR from RAW.
Built at the close of the 19th century, the Tennessee State Prison housed inmates until it was closed in 1989. From the time it began operations in 1898, the 800 cells of the prison had almost continually been over crowded. Throughout it’s history numerous calamities have occurred at the penitentiary including riots, mass escapes, and fires. Conditions at the facility were forbidding and harsh due to overcrowding, sanitation problems and insufficient ventilation. In 1983 a federal court decision prohibited the Tennessee Department of Corrections from ever housing prisoners at the TN State Prison.
Since 1992 the facility has been left mostly abandoned. Several buildings on the massive compound are still in some use today, but the rest of the prison lies in disrepair and deterioration. The Tennessee State Prison is now a wonderland of decay. Not without danger, the buildings on the site are contaminated with black mold, asbestos, and lead based paint among other obvious perils. Yet, it is a completely fascinating location to explore. Numerous films and music videos have been shot on the grounds of the prison.
Nearly all of my exploration of this site on this visit was of the medical facility on the northern end of the compound. The medical facility one of the most restricted buildings at the prison, attributable in part to damage caused by a film crew from VH1 that were visiting to shoot the “Celebrity Paranormal Project.”

Question by yeahokaywhatever: Black Mold?

Well, weve lived here for aproxx. 5 months now. We know we have a mold problem and weve gone to our landlord about it. They came, drilled a hole into the drywall and just left it there. The “mold” guy came out the next morning, univited without a notice again to enter the premises and opened our door with a key provided from our landlord. Once he heard us waking up, he slammed the door and left and nothing since. We now have a hole about 3 inches in diameter in our wall in which sucks heat out.
She told us its our responsability to clean up the mold. Well, we called the city on her and the guy came out. He said it was too much mold to accumulate over a 5 month period of time (considering weve cleaned this already 4 times).
the city came out and inspected. He said it was too much mold to accumulate into our apartment so quickly. Well, after speaking to her, he took her side completely. He told me it doesnt violate any code (although, i think its in the walls). Our manager lied to him; said she provided cleaning supplies, etc, etc. All she did was come out, look at it and tell us its our problem and to clean it with simple green? Simple green, what??? That doesnt do a thing for harsh, toxic mold.
they “said” they took a sample of the drywall they took out and it wasnt toxic mold. I see her throwing it away and never testing.

looks like you may need to move, having walls infested with mold can be a serious health hazard. I would try to use tilex for mold and mildew, it works very well.. However, in the mean time, recall the city and have someone else come..

Question by Jersey Style: Possible mold behind apartment walls? please help me out?
I’m at my wits end and completley out of ideas here. Two walls, one in the bathroom and the other in the bedroom as “mushy”, you can push your finger on them and they squish like jello. My guess, water damage; previous tenant (after we moved in) told us about all the mold and where it was when he was there, sure enough those are the “mushy” spots. What do you think it is? mold underneath the paint or something else and how do I prove it’s mold; health department said they can’t help unless it is “black mold” or we die (actual quote); please advise.
Renting in an expensive roach factory apartment in NJ, two different walls not connected to eachother thanks to all

Having spent a couple of years with a fire and water damage company, you might think about the following.
1. Contact the management company and explain what you have observed etc. Ask them to send in a reputable company to check for this problem.
2. You may call in a registered hygenist (?) which are licensed and qualified to test for the presence of mold.
The above should probably be done prior to ripping walls out etc. Should mold be present, tearing out a wall tends to spread the spore.
There are certain health issues which manifest themselves when a mold scenario is present so, it does need to be looked at.

Get a mold test kit form an environmental company or just pick one up at Home Depot. You take a sample and mail it to a lab and they’ll tell you what kind of mold it is.
